Optimize your Site for MSN

Date Added: October 27, 2009 12:22:47 PM

Even if most of us want to get our site or our client’s site to the top of Google for a certain number of keywords, we tend to forget that we can also be top of Yahoo or Bing. But one question often comes to mind is if optimizing a site to be top of Google would also work on the other search engines at the same time?

Even if Google is being used most of the time by people to search something, the other two main search engines represent together around twenty to thirty percent of the searches. If you have a smaller budget when using an SEO company or doing it internally, you may want to work to mainly optimize your site for those search engines and achieve a better ranking for keywords that would have been out of reach on Google. With Microsoft being one of the biggest companies in the world, you might want to consider Bing in your strategy. This is particularly true when you realize that most computers and laptops in the world use windows and other Microsoft products and that Bing or MSN search is the first search engine put on your machine or on Internet Explorer.
Ignoring the latest search engine built by Microsoft could be a terrible mistake especially when you see the power behind that company. With deals taking place between Yahoo and Bing, it is clear that neither of those two search engines are willing to give up fighting the huge power of Google. And that is why we should all keep that in mind when optimizing our site.

So like for any other search engine, back links should be something to look at with a lot of care. Having good inbound links from other sites will always help you achieve higher ranking on the search engines. That is why link building is so important. Whereas Google would not follow links from blogs comments that have a no follow tag, Yahoo and Bing may follow those links and use them to decide of your ranking.

Even if most search engines work more or less the same way, it seems that MSN or Bing depending on how you want to call it, would prefer a higher density of keywords in a page in comparison with Google. It means that whereas it is advised to have a keyword density of around 5 percents for your target keywords to please Google, you may need to have a higher keyword density to please MSN.
